Lymph node – question?

Last week they said the mel spread to 2 tiny lymph nodes but were not very bright in the PET scan and nothing to worry about.

I woke up this morning and apparently overnight 1 lymph node has swollen to about half the size of an egg.

Does anyone know what is going on? Is that some type of fluid build up or did the mel grow that quick or what? I really know almost nothing about lymph nodes at this moment. Just that the dermatologist said they are responsible for carrying fluid and since they already know the cause the mel is there they don't remove them through surgery because it would cause fluid build up.

Ok this site seems to answer a lot of questions.

          http://www.cancer.org/cancer/cancerbasics/lymph-nodes-and-cancer

Is there anything I can do about it or that I need to have the Drs do about it? Basically they say I need to keep taking the taf/mek pills and get into the merck eap pd1 at Mayo as quick as I can. I heard from Mayo last Saturday and they are looking into it and will call me by the end of this week for when to come up.

Artie, you have systemic disease and are on a systemic treatment.  I think this is why they aren't talking surgery or anything like that.  2 lymph nodes are the least of your problems.  You (and they) are truly looking for something to take care of everything.  It's only if you have significant pain/impingement/symptoms from one area that they might address it separately.  At least that's my take.  Good luck on getting the pd1 drug soon!

Oh ok. Thanks Janner. I've been freaking out waking up overnight with a swelling like that. I've gotten used to some of the bone tumors swelling gradually but not something like that. I wonder if mayo will do radiation on the tumor itself to try to knock its size down. Probably not the lymphs but the tumor I would think. I'm 2 for 2 with good radiation successes which is surprising since I read somewhere most peoples mel only responds a little to radiation and also re-radiating the same area usually doesn't work very well. So I've been lucky with it so far and side affects were minor the first time and none the 2nd.  Plus we know radiation sometimes helps these immunotherapy meds work. I've had very little success with meds. I guess we shall see.

I heard from the mayo pd1 coordinator so I think it might be as soon as sometime late next week I'll get that pd1. So a little over 2 weeks from when I called them. Much easier than other trials I've heard people try to get into but this is a compassionate trial so probably the difference.

Again thanks for replying. I appreciate it.
