My husband has stage 4 melanoma with metastasis to the liver. He was on Zelboraf which worked well until 1 month ago when a new tumor appeared and his liver tumor became active again on the PET scan. Does anyone know of clinical trials specifically for Zelboraf resistance?!

I am sorry for this disapointing news you got. Unfortunately, Zelboraf only works in about 50% of the people who try it and even when it works, the melanoma becomes resistant to Z after several months. That is why they recently started a clinical trial with another anti-BRAF drug (Dabrafenib) plus an anti-MEK drug to see if a 1-2 punch would prevent resistance.
Meanwhile, I know of no clinical trials for people who became resistant to Zelboraf. Zelboraf never worked for my brother and his oncologist recommended he try Ipi. You might look into that.

If you had a profile with info, it would be much easier to understand your situation and offer help. I am stopping Zel to start Ipi. It hasn’t failed me yet but my onc says we would’ve done it either way. Been on 5 mos. -
