Does anyone know how to get an appt at UCSF sooner than a month away? My 68 year old father was just diagnosed with metastatic melanoma with unknown source. Even his surgeon thinks this is an urgent case. How can we get in sooner? I'm going to start calling every morning on Monday hoping to score a cancellation. Any other suggestions?

Hmm that sounds strange, did you call the melanoma center? They will usually get you in sooner than that. When I was first diagnosed I got an appt there within a week with the dermatologist and then she referred me to the oncologist who I saw the following week. (415) 353-9900 is the number. It has been a life saver for me to have transferred my care there from a different place and your father will be in good hands. Definitely call tomorrow morning, see if they can put you on a cancellation list, so you'll get a call as soon as there is an open spot.
Here is their webpage for making a first appt: https://www.ucsfhealth.org/appointments/melanoma/index.html
There is an email address you can use as well to try and get some help too.
I'll be there on Thursday morning, if you continue to get the same response about no appts until next month, let me know, I'll see if I can talk to my favorite front desk guy about why that is for you.

I just thought of why you might have trouble getting an appt until November: after Thursday my oncologist will be gone the rest of the month for a melanoma conference in Australia. I don't know if the other oncolgists are also going but I do know my oncologist, Katy Tsai takes on most of the new patients.
