During the past couple of weeks, I experienced itchy scalp for 2 days and a rash on my chest that also disappered. These were both side effects I had after each ipi infusion which I finished in October. In this past week, I've had this discomfort on the right and left side of likely my bowels/intestines, light pink mucas once during a bowel movement and probably a bit of blood this morning. Keep in mind, I have a great appetite and don't feel sick.

My clinical nurse talked to my oncologist who wants me to go on Immodium and Entocort probably cause he thinks I've got a colitis issue coming on from ipi. I had great scans on November 30th and get my next scan January 25th, but my Dr. doesn't seem concerned about these problems I'm having. How can a dr. assume bowel problems needing perscriptions and not cancer? I trust my oncologist 100%, but maybe its normal for us to be more scared and Dr's to think something differently.
Who has experienced symptoms months after ipi??? Why do these problems happen??

I don't have detailed info on this, but have learned that many people do have intestinal problems after Ipi. I have a friend that instead of having diarrhea has had several operations to try to correct blocked bowel problems that the Oncologist has said appear to be due to the Ipi. They were told that this persons symptoms where a new item, not previous reported by Ipi receivers. (Their tumors have shrunken greatly inspite of the side effects causing two of the last 4 months to be spent in hospitals for the side effects.)

Hi Jerry,
Even though your friend seems to be doing well on ipi, it's awful that he's going through all these operations and hospital visits.
I got a perscription today for immodium and a steroid. I asked the Dr. why he didn't seem concerned with cancer and he said that the symptoms I have are clearly those of colitis, etc. Immune responses can take place much later and symptoms can last much longer. Even though having these bowel problems, you sometimes don't mind – especially when it's not cancer at the moment.

I had my second round of IPI last Thurs (Dec.29) and started having blood in the stools. I’ve been in the hospital for 2 days and had a scope today to verifier that it was from the drugs. It is and I have colits. I will start steroids in the morning. My dr insisted on running the tests to make sure. They told me though that it was a good sign that the IPI is working. So I guess I’ll try to endure!Hang I. There!!

colitis (irritation of the large bowel) is a known side effect of Ipi, tell your doctor, and don't be afraid to annoy him about it.

Hi everyone,My Dr. Gave me a prescription for endocourt. When I asked him why he wasn’t concerned about cancer, he said my symptoms were the signs of colitis – a common ipi side effect. Obviously I’m having a late immune response almost 3 months after my treatment. I’m not a big fan of taking steroids, especially when they effect your immune system, but I certainly don’t want this getting worse.
