      Hi

I am 62 years olds and  live in Californa. I have been receiving SSDI for 6 months. I am stage 4, and on a clinical trial for 6 mos. and just became  NED.

I know nothing about what qualifies a cancer patient to be able STAY on  SSDI. Will SSDI re-evaluate my stage 4 status and when to determine if I am well enough to stop SSDI??

My husband & I pay for our insurance plan ourselves which is very expensive. Our annual premiums are over $13,000. then we have a high deductible of $7500 (each) so  we are looking at a lot of money for "out of pocket" for  medical insurance.

My SSDI was approved on June 2011, then I waited 6 months to get my first check which I received in Jna 2012. How long do I have to wait before qualifying for Medicaid??Do I have to wait 2 years from June 2011 before  I qualify for Medicare??

What is Meicaid and how to you qualify for Medicaid??/

I would appreciate any information you can give me.

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply to my questions.

      Christine

If you find your original letter approving your SSDI it will say about when you "may" be reviewed.  Mine was 3 years and assume that's what others also say the same.   Your medicare should come through 2 years from your first check – that means in Jan. 2014.

I have not received medicaid so I can't give you any information.  Medicaid requires you to have limited income and limited money in the bank.  Doing a google on SSDI will give you some information.

I am thrilled that you are NED!  Hopefully you will never be dealing again with mel however keep information about what you have been going through incase you are reviewed.

When SSDI receipients get to normal SS retirement age, SSDI is replaced with normal SS benefits.  Since you will be just about normal retirement age when you come up for review, I suspect they will wait and then switch you over to normal SS and Medicare.

                Best wishes,

                Harry

I just got on regular Medicare in December. I am on SSDI. I have been NED for 2 years. I lost my long term disability from the state where I lived. I don't know what will happen with SSDI or Medicare. I am 56. I am in a clinical trial..week 90 of 128.

go to the social security website and apply…its all done on line and they will need your doctor to send your medical info in.  If you are low income they will give you Medicaid. I had to wait for Medicare – so much time from my original stage 4 diagnosis.
