I had melanoma on my foot a year and a half ago. It was stage II, surgically removed, none in the lymph nodes so I've been Ned since then. Recently I've noticed a small lump and some pain at the site of the surgery. Should I be worried? Can melanoma return at the original site? I know that it typically travels to the lymph nodes, in my case the groin, or to other organs but I've never seen anything about it cropping up at the site of origin.

Yes, I am currently being being tested for a possible reoccurrence. It is about a inch away from original excision. Have it checked out just to be safe!

Ok, thank you both. I was afraid this might be the case. Do we ever get over worrying that it might come back? I go on with my life but I have to admit that this fear is always in the back of my mind. I will get in touch with my doctors.

It also could simply be scar tissue. Don't jump to the worst conclusion — but get it checked out for peace of mind.

Yes, it could happen definitely.
You have to see a doctor.
