I have a quick question. I have a very light mole on my shoulder that several dernatologists have looked at and thought nothing of.  I noticed it about a year and a half ago and it has never changed.   Every so often the area near this mole will itch.. It is not constant and isn't on the mole directly.. Just the general area near the mole. I also notice somewhat of a stinging sensation near the mole as well.   Is pain a symptom of melanoma?  I am wondering if it is my mind playing tricks on me since I am aware and worry about this mole.

More than likely it is your mind overreacting to regular bodily stuff. The biggest thing to look for in a suspicious mole is CHANGE. You say it has never changed then I'd say it's nothing to worry about. Bodies itch and nerves make us have weird pains sometimes, but that does not equal melanoma, or any other serious problem. Keep an eye on it if you're worried, take a picture, compare in a couple of months. If it starts to CHANGE: color, shape, size, bleeds, etc. Then make an appointment with a dermatologist and get it checked out. Until then, keep on living your healthy life! ๐Ÿ™‚
