      Hi, I had melanoma removed in August, since they have found a lesion on femoral neck and Bosniak type IIF renal cyst. My doctor said he will wait a year for follow up. Is this ok based on having had melanoma? Or should I push for further investigation? I’m worried that if I wait a year that these lesions will have grown or progressed. Just looking for a little advice.

          We need more info.  In general, a cyst is not worrisome and wouldn't be a concern for melanoma.  You give us no information about the lesion on your neck.  Nor do you say where your original melanoma was, depth/stage or anything like that.    You don't have a profile so we can't infer anything.  We need more information to make even a half reasonable answer.  Just having melanoma doesn't change a lot of things if you are early stage.

              Well I was diagnosed with melanoma type 1T. It was removed in August. The lesion was discovered on the femoral neck of my right leg where goes into hip. The lesion in my left was not there last year but was discovered after the melanoma was removed on my shoulder during ultrasound and was called a 1.3 cm cyst from August to now has grown to 1.7 cm and it was classified as a Bosniak type llF. They also found precancerous polyps in my colon.  I’ve always had testing in the past due to my back, but these things just seemed to appear.  I know once you’ve had melanoma you are up tp 50% more likely to develop a secondary cancer.  I’m just scared to wait a year to find out that it ended up being cancer and could have been caught earlier.

                Type 1T?  Is that stage 1a? or 1b? What was the depth?  1T isn't telling us anything.

                I've never heard that "once you’ve had melanoma you are up tp 50% more likely to develop a secondary cancer".  Where is your source?  If you have some genetic defect, your risk is higher for other cancers.  But you aren't mentioning that type of testing.   And if you've had melanoma, your risk is higher for the other SKIN cancers.  Not cancer in general. 

                Certainly get anything checked out that is new/unusual/different.  Polyps have a standard protocol for followup to avoid colon cancer, and cysts are very well detected with ultrasound and not solid melanoma tumors.  And please post your source about melanoma warriors being at 50% risk to develop a secondary cancer.  That would be of interest to many here.

                  50% is not true, have never read a statistic with that high of a percentage for developing a second cancer after melanoma. There are certain types of cancers that are more common to get as a second cancer but it's more like 28%, so it's not very common. Here are a couple of links that explains better:

                  Likely this cyst is just a cyst, but if it worries you then getting a second opinion with a dermatologist that specializes in melanoma could be an option.
