Found out today my dad has to stop Yervoy treatment due to high liver bloodwork. It was either Alt or Ast that was over 400. Doctor says guidelines from drug company states to permanently discontinue at this point. He has been on Predisone for almost a week now. Any thoughts? Thanks, Annie

Sorry to hear that he has to stop Yervoy completely. At least he got 2 infusions in.. that's better than nothing. Did the doctor say if there was any other options at some point, like a clinical trial for one of the other drugs they are now testing for stage 3? Not sure how that works or if he'd be eligible. Hopefully these 2 doses did some good.

Jenn, the doctor is not recommending any other treatments right now. My parents are from Europe and spent eight months here and 4 months in Europe yearly. They are due to go back in May. I don’t think there are any trials that would be accessible to him right now. He did finish the radiation and hopefully the two infusions has done some good work, and hopefully will continue to do some more work since it seems there could be a delay in response. For now we are on a watch and wait approach. -

Holy moly that’s high for liver enzymes! Yes, absolutely, stopping is definitely in his best interest. The highest my ALT got was close to 200, which was a level III reaction (and I felt like sh!t), so we skipped a dose and repeated blood work. He must be feeling pretty awful right now, poor guy! To bring down his enzymes, you might want to look into milk thistle and/or juicing beets. Both are very healing for the liver.Hope he feels better soon! Keep us updated!

Interestingly enough, he feels and has felt , fantastic. No symptoms of the high levels at all. This puzzles me somewhat. I am wondering if it was just a quick, temporary high. Last Friday they were only slightly elevated, Monday was the super high level. He felt and looked great. Did more bloodwork on Wednesday but haven’t heard anything. They wanted to make sure it was trending down. I am assuming that it is since he still feels great. It is unfortunate that he has to discontinue treatment. Although we are glad he got two infusions at least. -

Did you end up finishing all four infusions? I will look into milk thistle and beets. They do use beets daily I believe. -
