I am the son of a woman, 63, diagnosed with melanoma. The melanoma is currently underneath the armpit and quite large (large marble). A CT Scan has come back clear although there is the smallest sign of cancer in the 8th rib. The Doctor has suggested Zelboraf for now. We are waiting for the drug to come through and may have to start a little chemo before we receive it (NHS UK). I am desperate for everything to be well. I lost my Dad when I was 15 and am 22 years old now. I am writing for support and advise about what we mght expect.

I am unsure what stage my Mum should be placed under as it is ony in the 8th rib and not yet in any organs. I love her so much the panic sets in that I may be losing her. I need help and support from my new fellow warriors.

Hi London22
You are already dear to my heart and I am so sorry you're Mum has been diagnosed with this beast. Please know you will find great support here and hundreds will view your post but only a few regulars and sometimes more than a few regulars will respond to your posts. Please repost again if you hear no response, this would be unusual but sometimes it happens.
I don't know how to help you medically, but you could throw out any questions and someone will probably answer you. I just want you to know I am thinking of you and you have already touched my heart……..I think the London connection or perhaps the Mum …..either way….. I love it!! Many friends there in London, always dear to my heart!
Please read my profile, sounds similar to what I experienced at first diagnosis. So many questions now, please call on this board, it is a wealth of information. I just want you to know how welcome you are here, although we hate adding a new person…..but we are strong here and will support you in all that you ask of us. Stay strong, believe and above all else be there for your Mum and let her know she is not alone, there are many on the front lines, going to battle and hopefully she will be a part of all our dreams of being a melanoma survivor,….. sharing her story of her journey with others.
Best wishes to you and your Mum!

I am the friend of someone who was recently diagnosed and we live in the UK. Helen( my friend) was initially treated at Blackpool Victoria but is now undergoing a clinical trial overseen by Royal Preston. The first thing I did after the diagnosis and prognosis was to email Dr James Larkin at The Royal Marsden in London. He emailed me back within 15 mins and she went to see him the following week. She actually saw Prof. Gore who said that the trial was the best for her at this time.
I recommend that if your mum isn't being treated at The Royal Marsden, then get a referral from your mum's G.P. Dr. Larkin and Prof. Gore specialise in Melanoma and innovative treatments.
Contact Macmillan who will offer support and comfort to yourself and help with advice about benefits if so needed.
Keep coming on to this site. The support people on here will offer you will be second to none.
I'm very sorry that you are having to go through this. I will be thinking of you and your mum and willing a positive outcome.
Best wishes,
Vic.

Hello London,
Unfortunately I don't have any medical suggestions for you. Your mum's situation is a little different from mine so I can't share much useful info. As was mentioned above, there are some really smart people on the site so I hope some of them will reply. Also if you haven't noticed it, there is a pretty good search feature on this site. If you have any specific questions on a particular drug or treatment you can type that in the search feature and find some good archived threads.
One thing I can offer are my prayers for your mum. I will definitely add her to my prayer list. Take care.
