      Hello!

I am a 38 year old female who recently had a full body check.   The doctor ound a 5mm lesion which has an atypical vascular pattern noted within, dermoscopically atypical, with question etiology. The doctor xompleted an excisional biospy in the office and sent for pathologhy.

Fast forward a week…dr calls and explains I will need more surgery.  The path came back as Atypical , abnormal Spitz.  In reading online I am overwhelmed and just loooking for some more info.

Thanks  in advance for the help.

Hi there!  First BREATHE. smiley  I am not a veteran here nor as medically versed as most, but maybe my story can give you a little comfort while you play the "waiting game". I was diagnosed Stage 1b melanoma in May.  As a result, I panicked and sent my 22 yr old daughter immediately to the derm as she is 50% of her momma.  She had 3 biopsies and 1 came back "junctional spitzoid melanocytic proliferation present at margins…complete excission for further testing advised".  Insert momma's panic attack.  Spitz have a make up that makes it difficult to diagnose benign vs malignent per my derm, my oncologist, and my reading.  Because of that, they are classified as atypical so its not just "your" spitz.  They even tested my daughter's for the P16 protein which is a tumor fighting protein to assist in the determination.  The second path report did confirm that hers was benign, praise Jesus.  So just try to breathe.  It may be ok.  Spitz just need a little extra attention and with any atypical mole, some derms feel complete excission is the best route to try and avoid any problem with it down the road.  The derm did request my daughter come in every 6 months for a while vs yearly because she had the "atypical" mole and because of my history.

As my daughter said…'calm down mom, you don't know until you know.  Worrying is not going to change a thing.  You can't control everything but you can control how you react'.  HMMM…she must have had a good raisin'???wink

          Wishing you the best.

I was diagnosed last month with Atypical Spitzoid Melanoma.  I am a 44 year old female.  The breslow width was .6mm.   I had the wide excision about 10 days ago.  I am also seeking advice/support.  When I google Spitzoid I am sent into a panic.  The information I find relates primarily to children, and I am confused and increasingly concerned.  Any information would be helpful.
