          Hi Lynn,

Sorry to hear you are going through this.  I did radiation in September and had a severe rash during the treatment.  It was hot, cracked skin, and oozed.  It was across my entire chest…nowhere near the radiation site…hip.  It kept happening and I wound up going to the emergency room several times because it would intensify on the weekends.  The doctors kept calling it a severe allergic reaction and put me on steroids each time.  Of course, I woud tell them I had melanoma and steroids were not good for me because they lowered my immune system.  Each doctor told me it was the only way to control it.

I am a teacher and during a parent-teacher conference, the parent (nurse practitioner) noticed my constant itching.  I told her what was happening and she told me it was a systemic yeast infection.  Right there, she wrote a prescription for Fluconazole.  I was desperate and took it.  I felt relief in a day.  My oncologist was furious.  He insisted it was not a systemic yeast infection, rather something called an "Id reaction."  He prescribed 21 more days of Fluconazole.  I don't know who was right, but the Fluconazole worked!

Perhaps you could ask your doctor about it.  Good luck because I know how annoying it is!

I am thinking it could be yeast…I have tried everything- including absorbine jr to try and dry it out. I have been using Caladryl, Benadryl lotion ( and caplets!) Hydocortisone1% ( tons of it) Lubraderm, Johnson's baby lotion and Eucerin ( the heavy cream) and triple antibiotic ointment..Yea I can't do steroids and I am about to climb the walls and chop off my hands!! My gut feeling is that it is a result of the anti pd 1 or my thyroid not working anymore…if it's the anti pd 1  it would mean that my body has been triggered into a anti immune response…it's a wonder we aren't getting Lupus or RA or something.  If its my Thyroid, maybe I need more synthroid OR I am allergic to the synthroid…I go on Tuesday to see the endocrine doc and I sure hope he has a solution that works…

I know exactly how you feel!  I was suicidal for an entire month prior to the fluconazole.  Ask your doctor about it, and I hope you get some relief…soon!
