Hi
Can you tell me if anyone who has been treated with ipi has any sucess with brain mets? I wondered if it works on them too? Also has anyone become NED with brain mets after the treatment.
Thanks

Dear Anonymous,
Ipi does treat brain mets as well as mets in the rest of the body. The response in a person is usually the same for the brain and the rest of the body. It is possible to have a complete response in both areas. There is also a response to brain radiation and ipi together. That may be worth investigating. If you want more information, you can google "chaotically precise" and there are two posts that may be helpful.

Jan 15, 2014 – "Ipi and radiation – a good combo for brain mets and otherwise" that breaks down two articles on the topic.
Good luck.

Hi,
In March 2012 I had combo of cyber knife type (a bunch of different names get used) radiation along with Yervoy/Ippy and pretty well fried that brain met I had and I was NED for 18 mos. A few stray cells did stay intact however and I had a recurrence in August 2013 and had brain surgery to remove the recurrence last September. Good news was it was a recurrence and not a new tumor as pathology showed the tumor was 90% dead and just 10% alive. I did the combo of Yervoy and the radiation afterwards again and just had my scans this week. I found out yesterday that I am again NED 6 months post surgery. I am not sure if it the Yervoy or the combination of the Yervoy and the radiation but it has been effective. If you go to the Memorial Sloan Kettering site and look up Dr Jed Wolchok you will find a link to his paper on the abscopal effect showing benefits from the Yervoy and radiation combo. From what I have read if I were to start fresh I might lean towards the Anti pd-1 and Nivolumamab drug combo which have gotten some pretty amazing results. Not sure if they have trials for that if you have a bran met but worth checkin into. The Yervoy side effects were pretty easy on me but will share that color if you desire. Good luck.

Hi,My Mom had gamma knife radiation followed by ipi 4 days later. We chose this because ipi activates t-cells that go after the cancer in the brain. The combo has worked for her so far. No new tumors and most have gotten smaller.
Get a second opinion, make them look at the scan you have too. And nice fast. The fewer you have the better the outcome.– If you are BRAF positive you need to make sure you discus all options with the pills. You may want to save that bullet tor later and use it in combo with something else.
