My dad had just being diagnosed with in situ melanoma on august, he got the mole and some good skin removed, but i am worried sick of the chances of the cáncer coming back as in a mole or something else, do you think we should make an appointment with a melanoma specialist for some extra tests? What are your experiences with in situ melanoma?

In situ means the melanoma cells were confined to the epidermis (outermost layer of skin) only and was not near blood or lymph vessels. That is excellent news that your dad caught it very early and now it's all gone. There's no reason to worry, there is no way for it to have spread. I have had a couple different family members have melanoma in situ removed and have never dealt with melanoma again (been over 20 years for one of them).

          All the best,

No, there is nothing to be concerned about.  All of the cancer cells have been removed and nothing has spread.  It also cannot come back as a different type of cancer.

There is no depth or any other factor involved that would be seen on pathology reports for Stage 1 and up. It is also sometimes called Stage 0, but more commonly referred to as melanoma in situ.

Not at all. With in situ, there is aboslutely no way there are cancer cells in his body for the reason I stated above. The people I know who have had in situ have stayed very healthy and have not dealt with any other form of cancer. Let your dad know he is cancer free and not to stress about it.
