It's been over 3 years since Stephanie passed away.  I now have a new girlfriend.  Her daughter, age 26, was diagnosed with melanoma late last year.  It appears that she is stage III, as a few mm cells were found in her sentinal node.  Her onc is recommending LND and Interferon.  She's being treated at Bay State hospital in Springfield, MA.

Of course, my girlfriend is worried sick.  I'll do what I can for her and for her daughter.

Hi, Alan. I remember you very well from the old days. Nice to see you, but of course not under these circumstances. I think there is at least one of the newer treatments that is being tried for stage III. You might check with large cancer centers in your area (NY, Boston). With the dicey effectiveness of Inf, I think it's worth investigating options. Maybe someone on this forum who is more knowledgeable than myself can point you in the right direction. Anyway, good luck to your GF's daughter.

                    Hi Don,

Long time, huh?  Glad to see you're doing well.

Yeah, her doc suggested that she get a second opinion at Dana Farber cancer center in Boston.  When Stephanie was going there, she was uder the care of Dr. Stephen Hodi.  Not sure if he's still there.  She really liked him and his team.

Alan look close at the Interferon.  There are several studies underway to determine who it may actually help.  Where is the daughters primary?  That can help determine which type of melanoma is the most likely for her and which DNA mutation is llikely involved and should be tested for.  Praying for her.
