Look at where you hit "Reply" on a thread.  To the right, there is an option "Subscribe to this topic".  Select that to get notifications.  There is also an option to subscribe to all on the main topic listing.

I was JUST coming on to check about getting notifications. I used to get email notifications, but no longer do. Thanks for this posting and response! I have been missing threads completely because I do not go back through them all.

I use Microsoft Outlook as my RSS reader.  When you subscribe to an RSS feed (the little orange subscribe button) and select Outlook as your reader, it creates a folder in your Outlook for responses and they automatically get downloaded when you open your e-mail program.  This probably can be done with other email client programs, too.
