Hi everyone! I have posted on here several times. I will be honest- I'm panicked. My hip has been aching for about two weeks and I'm afraid it's bone mets. I'm currently stage 1b, but I can't get over this fear. I've only been diagnosed for since the beginning of April. I may just be paranoid, I don't know. It's like an achey feeling- sometimes feels achey in my back too. The other piece is I have a 5 month old baby too- she is our first and I don't know if any of this is from her- even though it's just now starting to feel achey. Thanks for your thoughts. I hope all of this makes sense- ๐

It really is unlikely to be bone mets, but I know that doesn't help when you're newly diagnosed. For a couple years after diagnosis I thought every twinge, pain, or unusal feeling was a met. As time goes on you gradually relax.
My guess would be that your baby is getting bigger and heavier and this might be related to picking up your daughter. Or it could be your body adjusting to birth. Lots of things are much more likely than mets.
Honestly, though, if it bothers you enough and OTC meds don't help then go talk to your dr. No need to stress yourself out.

Thank you for the advice Fen. I appreciate it! I am working hard to enjoy her- well- not working to enjoy her- but working to not "overthink" everything.

It would sure help if you didn't post anonymously so we had background. Like where your mole was, but honestly if you were to have symptoms it would likely occur first in you lymph nodes not likely as bone mets. I too suspect it is more likely due to either giving birth or for hauling around the 5 month old. Check with your regular doctor.

You are right- I should. I haven't worked up the courage I guess you could say to not post anonymously. Thank you for your thoughts. I do truly appreciate it!

Did you by any chance have surgery near that area? Because surgery seems to be able to cause all sorts of odd pains in the first few months. I am stage 1 mucosal melanoma, had vulvar surgery and lymph node biopsies and had pain radiating down my left leg for a few months. Finally went away all on its own.
I also went to see my family doc about neck pain. I think it was from sleeping weird after surgery but it was severe. Bone mets never even occurred to me but my doctor ordered an x-ray and when I followed up he said he was glad to see there was no sign of cancer there.
So my thinking is that while there is no reason to panic, there are so many other things it could be, it might not hurt to see your doctor and see if an x-ray could be done. It's so simple to do and will put your mind at ease once and for all.

My surgery was on my mid/ upper back. I'm working not to think that the melanoma skipped lymph nodes and went straight to my bones- I know that's not common- but my mind runs away sometimes. I have an appointment with my oncologist in a few weeks- might bring it up then if it still continues.

Look for the most likely explanation first, then look for zebras. Bone mets and melanoma are the zebras here. I'd be more inclined to think it was related to baby, carrying baby, or some other such benign event. To be honest, I've had hip pain for the last six months or so and it has never once occurred to me to think melanoma. Stage 1b for 22 years, 3 primaries.
Does icing or heat help? Can you try anti-inflammatories? Carry your child on the opposite side or a different way? Simple things to try before you jump to conclusions.

Thanks for the reality check if you will. ๐ I guess to be honest- a main reason I'm scared is because my surgeon sent a tissue sample to a brand new company trying to determine the likelihood of recurrence in stage 1 and stage 2 patients. Apparently mine came back as high risk. ( I think they looked at the tumor make up of mine versus others that have progressed and I guess they have a similar make-up.). I don't kmow how valid this test is, but it has me so shook up- I feel like everything is melanoma. I think I need to calm down a little and be a little more positive. The test just has me freaked out that I will progress. I appreciate your realistic/optimistic outlook.
