Has anyone had a form of Gillian Barre from the ipi/nivo combo? My friend's daughter is 28, dx in December '15, started a Clinical Trial, no side effects round one, a "motor variant" of Gillian Barre with the second? How was the recovery from the Gillian Barre?

So sorry for your friend's daughter. Ipi can produce many unfortunate side effects….alone and in the combo. Usual treatment for all immune side effects includes a break from the medication and treatment with steroids. Docs used to fear treating side effects with steroids, but we have since learned that early and aggressive treatment of side effects, even with steroids when needed, not only makes the patient better, allows them to resume their melanoma treatment, it does NOT diminish response. Here is a study speaking about ipi induced Guillain-Barre': http://chaoticallypreciselifeloveandmelanoma.blogspot.com/2014/03/melanoma-patients-teach-us-more-about.html
Here is a link to a webinar as well as a report from accompanying slides of two melanoma specialists talking to oncologists about how to deal with side effects from various melanoma treatments: http://chaoticallypreciselifeloveandmelanoma.blogspot.com/2015/09/side-effects-and-how-to-manage-them-in.html
Wishing your friend's daughter my best. Celeste
