Before my most recent radiation and now again whenever I try to sleep in my recliner I can no longer recline it all the way because fluid collects in my throat and I wake up choking. The most I can go seems about 45 degrees.
The fluid i spit up seems to be anywhere from clear watery to very white with various shades in between.
i would normally just deal with such a minor thing but I have another head mri Monday the 9th. Although I requested the open mri this time and it is very difficult with all my spine issues I have no idea how I can do it with this choking issue.
i know how important the head mri is so I'm very worried I can't do it with this choking stuff. I did find there are reclining mri but they seem to be for the arms and legs. I've seen a picture of a very large open mri but it just showed a guy lying flat.
I've thought of asking for some med to practically knock me out but then I think what if the fluid builds in my throat and I can't press the ball.

For the ct scans they prop lots of stuff behind my back all the way to my head.
im at a loss how to get through this. Is there a way to recline a head mri? Any other ideas?

Sorry dunno why that posted 3 times. I guess because I should be sleeping.
Anyway I also remembered a long time ago I had a 360 X-ray of my teeth by sitting in a chair that raised and lowered to the height they needed to scan. Thst would be perfect for my head mri if anyone knows if that exists.

Another thing I found is someone did spine research where they somehow did mri of people sitting at two different angles. They did that because the spine is different when sitting vs lieing down. Thus it must be technically possible to do a head or in that case spine mri of someone sitting. I just hope someone knows where I can get that done or some other idea that will work. Sorry I'm rambling. I still can't sleep.

Oh, Artie. I am sorry you are having additional worries and issues!! I would call my doc today as well as the radiology department where you have your studies done to discuss your concerns and to see what options they can arrange for you. Wish I had more to offer. Hope you are asleep and getting a bit of rest just now. C

Hi Artie,
just looked at a website http://www.sumamri.com which features a standing MRI (or positional MRI) which accommodates scans at varyious body angles. Maybe an option for you?

Awesome. Thanks. I see a couple imaging places locally too that have this standing sitting mri. Says it can do the brain and claims the images are as good as a 1.5 tesla mri. They put something on the head though but they clamp the head in on the lay down anyway so hopefully that won't be too bad.
I called my nurse so she'll talk to the doc and see what they want to do. Now that I know it exists I've decided I'm not even going to attempt the lay down mri. I was having back spasm pain issues with the short ct last Friday and that was with several cushions propping me up. Combined with the fluid build up there is just no way I could do the lay down.

Well eventhough there are 2 upright mri places locally my radiation doc does not want to do that. He changed it to a ct scan of the head saying it would do for what he is looking for. So I guess that is what I will do. I think I can make it through a ct since I did last Friday although for that they were able to prop me up a lot because it was my abdomen and pelvis. I guess they will do some of that for this but just enough so I fit through the machine.
im kind of disappointed but not much I can do. I know the scan will show what he is looking for which is to see if the one remaining tumor that is pressing on my brain has changed. But dunno if it will show if others have shown up. I assume so but dunno.
Thanks everyone.
