      Hello everyone,

My name is Youri and I live in the Netherlands.
My father has been sick for a long time and after succesfull radiation therapies, my fathers melanoma's were stable for over a year. In the pas couple of months the melanoma's started growing again. Radiation and chemo didn't work this time.

We heard about a new treatment, called R05185426, which possibly would lead to stabilisation, or even shrinking of the melanoma's. In the Netherlands this treatment is still in the experimental stage. An entrance requirement is that the melanoma's above the shoulders are stable. Unfortunately my fathers aren't. Yesterday the doctor told us that my father is excluded from the new treatment.

My question is, whether in other countries than the Netherland, the treatment can be performed or the new chemo can be optained on the free market.
We are almost out of hope so if you know anything, please reply, and help us.

      With kind regards,

      Youri Hasper and family

RO5185426 is also vemurafenib, or Zelboraf. EU approval was granted on 20 Feb 2012. Hope this helps

You might find other alternatives that would be suitable for your father if you check the Melanoma Interational Foundation website.  One of their websight coordinators is from the "other side of the pond".

                Good Luck,

                Mary

you should also go to http://www.cancer.gov to check out clinical trials – check out the criteria to give you a good idea on what your father may be able to use.

Thank you all for the reactions they were usefull. Now i'm trying to find clinical trails in other countries in Europe where stability above the neck isn't a requirement for the trails.

I have to admit that my mastery of english makes it hard for me to understand the scientific papers. It takes a lot of time to analyse the different options. So if anyone nows a place in Europe where the stability, above the neck, isn't an issue, please let me know.

A short update about my father:
He is still in the hospital and finaly on morphine drugs. Also he had a special bed which makes his legs and hip hurt less.
Yesterday we have renoveded the ground floor in our home to make it possible for him to live downstairs. He lookt much better and the pain is, thanks to the drugs, much less. He finally has occasionally a smile on his face.

Again, if someone has experience with R05185326 (Vemurafenib, plx4032) treatment in Europe, while having unstable melanoma's above the neck, please tell me where this was and help me contact the right people.

                            With kind regards,

                            Youri
