I have been back on Zelboraf for a few weeks now and my eyes have been somewhat bloodshot for the past few days and my vision is not as clear as usual. I intend to see an eye Dr if it doesnt clear up, but was wondering if anyone else has experienced this? I can still see to read, and such, but it is slightly blurry and my eyes are burning a little. None of it is terrible… but it is noticable.
Thanks!
Tina

I am having the exact problem! I'm also on Dex and my left eye has bothered me the last time I was on the Dex so I didn't worry about it. Last week it got really bad in the right eye and itching and went to the eye Dr. She has given me eye drops and so far one day my eyes will be ok and the next will be terrible. She did say that I do not have uveilitis (I know that is spelled wrong) which can be caused by zelboraf and can do damage in the eye. For me the right eye started when the eye lid became red and got a few of the bumps there by zelboraf. My derm gave me an ointment for that.
When I called my mel oncologist he was out of the country. The person covering for him suggested the eye Dr. I was amazed that they fit me into her schedule the next day! I think I'm going to call my onc back again. Maybe I need to stop the pills for a few day.

Tina – Been there done that, twice. I had bloodshot eyes, blurry with a yellow bump in one or the other. Eye dr said they were extremely dry. I used OTC eye drops (blink) then it went away. It came back worse and I had good luck with an ointment (Genteal) for severe dry eyes at night. Yucky though, like putting Vaseline in your eyes. Couldn’t see my way to the bed lol!! -

Went to the optometrist this afternoon, and NO sign of uveitis..YAY! Eyes are dry, and OTC eye drops recommended. My Oncologist still wants me to get a brain CT scan, just to be safe, so I do that tomorrow, but am not expecting any new news.He has asked me to stay off the Z until we get the results.
Thanks for the encouraging and helpful words. It just helps so much to have others to talk to who walk this road!

I hope you both find some relief soon. I should’ve specified I saw an ophthalmologist, (the one with the MD), not an optometrist. I didn’t really know the difference. The OTC ointment worked great for me. Didn’t fix it, but managed it. Dry eyes went away when I stopped Zel.Amy

My mistake. Mine is an opthamalogist but when I was trying to correct my spelling I ended up putting the wrong one. I'm thinking my problem is the combination of the Zel and the dex. How long did it take for your dry eyes go away? I know when I got off of Dex the first time it took me a few weeks. Don't think I can afford to be off of Zel for a long time!!

I’m not sure exactly when the dry eyes cleared, maybe a week? I got iritis from Ipi in one eye right after so it was confusing. I had great success with the night ointment/gel managing the eye symptoms. I never had to stop Zel for the eyes.I was on 5 mg prednisone for months and started tapering down then stopped before stopping Zel, but it didn’t help my eyes. I know Dex is much stronger. Hope this helps. And makes sense.

While I do not think I have experienced this side effect, I sometimes wonder. From time to time, vision does not seem as clear as it was, but later on it seems fine. I never thought there was any association. Anyway, I found this video that talks about Zelboraf side effects, the vision segment starts around the 13:10 mark.

Thank you, Dick,
I thought I had noticed the same thing before my long break off the med…with vision being a little blurry, then clearing up – but my eyes never got red like they are now. I am always so curious as to what causes the drug to cause the side effects. Wondering if the blurriness before was from eyes being dry? The drops are helping the discomfort, but they are still pretty red. Went for CT scan today and once I get the results back on Monday, considering they are normal, I will restart Zelboraf then.I was very relieved that it was not uveitis & even felt a little silly for going to the Dr for dry eyes, but was not wanting to take a chance with my vision.
Thank again & hope your break is allowing you some sleep-in mornings!
