Jennifer – Sorry for the financial blow of losing three months worth of income.  Do you live in a State with Short-Term Disability insurance?  I live in California and was able to use SDI to cover 2/3rds of my lost income during a one month surgery-related absence.  Best of luck and health to you.

Sorry you have a yucky sounding surgery coming up!!

Between surgery and treatments, I've been off of work for a while too.  Fortunately for me, I have been receiving disability benefits through insurance provided by my employer.  If this is not an option for you, I'm sure there is a way for you to get some financial help.  I really don't know much about the other options since I haven't needed it myself, but I have to imagine you would qualify for some sort of Social Security disability … my disability insurance people have hinted to me that I can get social security $ if I needed more aid.

It may require a good amount of leg work to get it all figured out, but I'm sure there is a way for you to get some financial aid.  Besides just googeling options, maybe ask your doctor if the hospital you are going to has a financial advisor you can talk to.  I know I was offered this when my treatments started up.

Sorry you are having to deal with all of this! The last thing you need is money stress while dealing with the stress of melanoma!!!  Good luck, and hang in there!!!!
