"Currently, there is no useful laboratory test to monitor patients with early stage breast cancer who are doing well, but could have an asymptomatic recurrence,"
same with melanoma, maybe someday there will be a blood test for it too

I think that very well could be another useful advancement in treatment in the not too distant future. I recently just heard about this type of research being done. If you google "circulating tumor cells" you will find articles on the subject.
