Look at where you hit "Reply" on a thread. To the right, there is an option "Subscribe to this topic". Select that to get notifications. There is also an option to subscribe to all on the main topic listing.

I use Microsoft Outlook as my RSS reader. When you subscribe to an RSS feed (the little orange subscribe button) and select Outlook as your reader, it creates a folder in your Outlook for responses and they automatically get downloaded when you open your e-mail program. This probably can be done with other email client programs, too.
