So Dr. Wolchok just called to tell me the Merck Phase 1 PD1 trial I was aiming for has been closed by Merck–or at least they’ve closed seats at sloan. He said it was Merck’s edict with no exceptions. Boy am I upset.
He said my 2 choices are to go back on Zel or see Dr. Pavlick at NYU where they have seats in the phase 2 trial w/the chemo arm.
I choose to at least see Dr P next week and see what she thinks. I know she’s good, it’s not a matter of that, it’s whether I want to possibly go through the effects of chemo. But I’m afraid if I go back on Zel, the Mel will just come back soon, when there might not be a trial seat available.Any ideas, thoughts, suggestions??
🙁

Hi Karen,
If the phase 2 trial with Dr. Pavlick is the same MK-3475 trial Catherine Poole has discussed over on MIF, (I think it must be), she said it's a 2:1 ration of MK-3475 arm vs. chemo arm, AND that there's some kind of crossover from chemo to MK-3475 if someone is not responding on chemo.
Hope that helps some.

O-O-O-F-F-F! What a kick in the stomach! I can't believe the lousy luck you have had with getting into an anti-PD1 trial. I'm so sorry for your disappointment.
As Kyle said, Catherine Poole at the Melanoma International Foundation keeps really close tabs on all the anti-PD1 trials. She always welcomes people to email her with specific questions. Her email is: cpoole@melanomainternational.org
Don't give up! You are worth the effort!

Oh Karen, I am very sorry to hear this. Is it possible that there are still openings at the other locations?
Whatever you decide, You are in my prayers.

Thanks guys,
Kyle, I think the crossover is allowed at 12 weeks… This stuff is growing fast. I will ask Dr. Pavlick (appt Monday afternoon–that’s impressive) what happens if it is seen to be progressing before then.John, BMS trial excludes prior Remicade use– the stuff that saved me during Ipi-induced colitis.
I’ll post after I see Dr. P.
have a good weekend all.
