      Just finished 2nd dose of Ipi and diagnosed today with 2 brain mets – 4 mm and 6 mm. Bummer since only been off Zel 4 wks and was told brain was all clear. Anyone have experience with doing radiation in between Ipi treatments? I think there were some trials based on some effects they had seen at Sloan where radiation seemed to have turbo charged Yervoy and it then attacked the melanoma all over the body like crazy. Looking at SRS to zap these 2 critters as soon as possible.

          Are your docs indicating their opinion on the impact of radiation on the timing of your remaining IPI cycles for you?

          If there’s any tricks to boosting the ipi induced immune response to melanoma, we’d want them in play for us, right? That report from Sloan on possible ‘abscopal effect’ certainly was interesting.

          So, not between Ipi cycles for me, but I received Gamma Knife radiation to the brain (almost 4 hours worth) just 10 days before my first IPI cycle last year.

                I did 4 infusions of Ipi from Aug thru Oct 2011 for a lung met; subsequent scans showed slow growth of the tumor. Finally in April 2012 my doctor decided to have me do SRS. Scans in Aug 2012 showed the met gone. Was it the Ipi, or the radiation, or maybe the combination of the two? Don’t know, not even the doctors are sure. I’d say go for it. God bless!

                      I had two doses of IPPI and then radiation on the spot behind my knee. I couldn’t continue IPPI because of colitis it caused. Three month scan showed it reducing and no new spots. My next scan is Nov 13, so we will see how that comes out!? I say go for it! It can’t hurt.

                            I appreciate your feedback everyone. I’m on the fast track to radiation anyway, another brain MRI today then meet with the radiation oncologist Thursday so we’ll see how it goes.
