      Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this forum…just having a bit of a freakout…I had a melanoma in situ removed by wide local excision nearly two years ago. I've just noticed some bruising directly adjacent to the site – can't remember doing anything to get the bruises, and quite a bit of puffiness around the right hand side and bottom of my scar from the removal.

Very anxious that it could have spread to the lymph nodes….Saturday here in New Zealand so no chance of getting to the Dr until Monday unless I went to an after-hours clinic, and not sure it warrants that.

Just wondering…what are the symptoms that melanoma has spread to the lymph nodes, on the shin? Had a bit of a google and didn't find anything much. Also had bad headaches lately…not sure if that's got anything to do with anything…

      Thanks in advance.

I think this is one of those times where you just need let things heal.  Swelling and bruising sound MUCH MORE like some type of trauma as opposed to some type of metastasis.  Even if you don't remember hitting it, I'd give it some time.  If, in a weeks time, it isn't showing signs of improvement, then I'd consider talking to a doctor.  But truthfully, I, personally, would not  be running to the doctor for what you describe.  Melanoma in situ is almost always cured (like 99%) with the WLE and the most likely time for recurrence would have been before now.  Take a step back and ask yourself if this wasn't near your melanoma scar, would you be running to the doctor for it?  The shin is an obvious area for trauma and I'd give things a chance to heal and take their normal course before running to the doctor.  This is what *I* would do.  You have to do what makes YOU comfortable.

          Best wishes,
