Hi,
My husband last year was diagonised with Stage IIIA Melonoma and the treatment plan for the last 40 weeks has been interferon shots 3 times a week. Since he is finally finished in three weeks with this treatment he is very concerned with what damage this medication will have on him long term. How long does the Fatigue, stomach pains, and muscle aches last after he is completed with the shots? Any insight anyone would have would be greatly appericated it.

Congratulations on completing the Interferon treatments. It's not an easy thing to get through. My protocol was high dose Interferon for 1 month followed by 11 additional months of low dose self injections. I managed a total of 7 months and was feeling a lot of fatigue, muscle aches, forgetfulness and anxiety. After being off it for just a few weeks I was pretty much back to normal physically…a little better every day. I'm a runner and it took me a while to get back to my full training routine but, other than that I felt no ill effects at. all I think you're husband should be feeling great and enjoying life in a very short time. All the best to both of you

Congratulations on getting through the year! I am stage 3C and had to stop at 9 months. If I remember correctly, I felt MUCH better after a week or two and a month later I was like a new person. I did have some short term memory issues that lingered but that, too, finally went away.
My main side effect has been continued good health for over 10 years. All I can say is so far so good, and I hope for the same for your husband.

I finished my treatment in November 2011. 1 month hd and 11 months ld. Within two weeks I was feeling a lot better. Every day got better and better.apetite came back quickly. Fatigue went away as well. I would give it a month to get back to normal. I know it that it has not been easy. Congrats on getting this far.Scot
