I just want to recommend Cancer Treatment Center in Phoenix (Goodyear) for any of you considering treatment options.  They are absolutely wonderful.  They treat the whole person, not just the cancer and they are so knowledgeable about melanoma.  They have oncologists, surgeons, and care givers who specialize in melanoma.

I had surgery for my melanoma in September and am cancer free now.   It was only stage II but I met others at the center with stage IV melanoma and they are doing well today.

Cancer patients, no matter what type, are treated so special at this hospital.  Every time I go I feel like a queen instead of a statistic. It's worth a call if you are looking for help on your cancer journey. And, no, I don't work for them but if I lived in Phoenix I'd like to.

Cancer Treatment Centers of America is known as being FOR profit, not taking insurance, not doing research and isn't approved by the National Cancer Institute.  They may treat you like a queen, but their pockets get lined to do so and i would make sure the treatment is up-to-date.  I would choose Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale instead.

Sloan Memmorial Kettering is for profit and does not take insurance either.  In my experience, most places that are run for profit treat the patient as the customer (instead of the insurance company) and they'll provide you with the codes so you can submit a claim to your insurance company for at least partial reimbursement.

That's an interesting article, thanks!  I had no previous experience with CTCA and was just commenting on the "for profit" aspect.  If it's true that CTCA only accepts people it believes will keep their survival statistics high, then I guess it's good news if they accept you for treatment!

I thought this was a supportive online group for melanoma patients.  Apparently I was wrong.  I simply shared my good experience with CTCA .

Hi Springcreek, it probably has something to do with the fact that your first 2 post on the forum where of a promotional nature!!!! Most people come here asking for advice and every once and awhile some one come here to sell a product or service. If you spend a little time on the forum and read some of the post from the past, then I think your opinion will change. Ed

Wow-CTCA sounds to good to be true. I think I heard a saying about that but I can't think of it is right now.

Too good to be true usually isn't.   SLoan Kettering does cover with insurance and happens to be the top research facility for melanoma in the world.  Show me a place (CTCA) that DOES NOT do research approved by the National Cancer Institute and I will not go there.  Yes, the cancer centers are all profit making non profits that is true, but I will stick with the experts and approval by the National Cancer Institute.  and something tells me this person works for CTCA.

My apologies, jpg, I was misinformed about Sloan Kettering.  They evidently do take insurance and they are a non-profit.  I'll stop listening to my brother.
