my first pet scan

PET scans are not too bad if you go in with a "chilled" mode.  You will spend an hour after they inject you with the isotopes (and drinking the Gatorade like contrast)  just sitting and doing absolutely nothing (no reading or any sort of activity).  I bring a small Bluetooth boombox for music and that really helps relax you.  

Then they put you on the machine and that takes about an hour (having the music was nice there as well but that machine is pretty noisy).  I close my eyes and just totally relax.  The technician is not going to tell you anything about your results but I always get them the next day when I visit my oncologist.  (specifically set up the appointments that way)

Later you can get a copy of your scan on cd. When you bring it up yes stuff can be lit up usually red. Sometimes your doc might show it to you. Also sometimes the doc will explain why certain things always light up.
