I have had two recurrences. Both times I asked for a PET scan. The first time I was clean, the second time the PET showed the cancer had spread. I remember having a conversation with my oncologist after the second recurrence but before the PET. He suggested that the thinking about when to administer Yervoy was changing, that it wasn't just for Stage 4 anymore. However, that all became moot once the PET showed I was stage 4.
If it were me, I would want a PET to make sure it had not spread. If it hadn't, I would consider Yervoy since the recurrence means that cancer cells are still present.
Hope that helps!
